Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Waste Management Operator with a competitive wage of $38.48 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 10%.

The purpose of the Waste Management Operator is to safely and effectively manage and operate all aspects of waste-management while reporting within the guidelines of applicable regulations and the site Waste Management Plan.

This includes, but is not limited to, the proper operation of the incinerator and maintaining plant components.

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Receiving all waste streams from site. Performing waste sorting, segregation, and bulk/consolidation.
  • Maintaining the waste management laydown area in a safe and orderly fashion, in accordance with the Waste Management Plan.
  • Labeling all waste for storage or transport, in accordance with WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, and site requirements.
  • Perform audits on existing procedures/protocols and provide recommendations on improving system operations and addressing safety concerns.
  • Packaging outgoing shipments of waste properly and ensuring regulatory paperwork is completed, accurate, and included. Filling out all waste manifests for offsite shipping.
  • Operate incinerator as per specifications.
  • Complete daily inspections of incinerator.
  • Placing contaminated soil in designated waste bin; Coaching Colleagues in proper waste handling.
  • Tracking all movement of waste on site in a waste inventory.
  • Preparing all waste backhauls and delivering loads to hauler as needed; and
  • Other relevant duties as required.
  • Monitor wood burning process.

About You  

Position requirements include, but are not limited to: 

  • Class 5 (five) Drivers License required 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of waste management process.
  • Previous experience in waste management at a remote industrial location.
  • Experience with packaging, labelling, and tracking hazardous and dangerous goods.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, including WHMIS.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English);
  • Strong computer software skills (i.e., spreadsheet and data base tracking/monitoring applications);
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of an eco-waste solutions incinerator is an asset; &
  • Cross cultural awareness with an understanding and sensitivity of the challenges associated with differences in cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Certificate in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

Additional Information

  • Work at remote location (camp) on 13 days on 13 days off rotation and 2 travel days
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
