Technical Services Manager – 986492

Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Technical Services Manager with a competitive base salary between $191,200 – $239,000 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 30%.

Reporting to the Mine General Manager, the Technical Services Manager is responsible for the management of key technical functions to support mine site operations.

The successful candidate will perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

Health & Safety

  • Speak up for health and safety, identify, report and address risks.
  • Be alert, observe and report safety incidents and support investigations.
  • Ensure that employees and respective work areas are in compliance with all of Newmont health and safety policies and British Columbia Occupational Health and Safety Act in commission of job duties.
  • Report to work physically fit.
  • Attend daily pre-start safety meetings.
  • Oversee the development and application of all standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and standard task procedures (STP’s) within development department.
  • Complete safety training and certification as required by site and departmental procedure.
  • Ensure effective implementation of key safety initiatives such as critical control verification audits, five point safety system, job task analysis, and planned inspections within the Technical Services Departments
  • Thorough understanding and consistent application of the fatality risk management program.
  • Develop risk assessment and hazard operations review processes and skills
  • Provide input and direction to the site leadership team (SLT) to guide site safety systems and ensure execution of the site safety strategy.

 

Work Execution

  • Responsible for the technical services deliverables of mine planning, mine engineering, project engineering, and production geology as they relate the execution of the site strategy.
  • Liase with the corporate Technical Services team to ensure work execution is aligned with site, regional and corporate strategies.
  • Facilitate planning sessions to coordinate projects requiring complicated interaction between many groups
  • Ensure a consistent flow of resource generation, reserve determination, life-of-mine planning, budgeting, and detailed mine planning and quality control for mine operations
  • Facilitate creative thinking sessions to insure Brucejack mine operations strategy is evolving as necessary with the alignment of Brucejack management
  • Provide fully integrated technical support to operations
  • Identify operational priorities and build into long- and medium-term plans
  • Identify areas of engineering risk and opportunity in a timely manner so that necessary engineering can be completed prior to mining
  • Develop and implement systems and standards to ensure Technical work is systematically accomplished.
  • Ensure the necessary quality control is in place to ensure regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and maximum value creation
  • Ensure projects priorities are identified
  • Develop and adhere to realistic budgets.

  • Participate in strategic planning as a member of the Site Leadership Team (SLT)
  • Ensure an awareness of key Brucejack project and permitting schedules and that schedule deadlines are achieved
  • Ensure key project risks and opportunities are identified and mitigation plans developed
  • Ensure integration of fatality risk management in departments activities and deliverables
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams in setting the direction and establishing of priorities
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont’s Environmental, Sustainability, and Human Resources polices.

  • Create development plans for Technical Services staff including identifying strengths and weaknesses and determining appropriate training and development requirements

About You:

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor of Science or Applied Science preferably in Mine Engineering or Geology
  • Be technically competent and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold mining
  • Mine design principles and their application to ore bodies
  • Resource modeling and the application of geologic grade interpolation

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of mine operation and technical experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Minimum 2 years of implementing systems and/or processes

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership competencies with strong communication skills
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations for mines and mining plants.
  • Strong business acumen including advanced budgeting and financial skills
  • Continuous improvement experience
  • Ability to review mine designs and sequences
  • Strong computer skills including experience using ERP systems-SAP preferred.
  • Ability to influence and inspire others, and manage cross-functional relationships.
