Purpose

The Senior Project & Tailings Metallurgist will strive towards improving metallurgical and operational performance of Red Chris Mill Operations. Focus on developing short-to-long term strategic plans for the mill through continuous review of operating data, awareness of all mill improvement initiatives with a view to developing forecast inputs, model validation and updates as necessary. Provides a strong link between Mill Operations and Technical Service teams, including mine planning, business improvement and capital projects. Provides operational and technical support to the Operations group, while maintaining a safety, behaviour and cost commitment consistent with the Newmont Values.

 

The Red Chris Metallurgy team is recruiting for the position of Senior Project & Planning Metallurgist with a competitive base salary between $125,800 – $148,000, dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications. The compensation package includes a comprehensive Benefits plan, Vacation allotment, RRSP with organizational matching, and an ongoing Travel allowance to get to and from the worksite.

We are seeking an individual for a Fly-in, Fly-out opportunity working on a two-weeks-in, two-weeks-out rotation.

Role Accountabilities

Responsibilities of the Senior Project & Tailings Metallurgist include, but are not limited to:

  • Develops detailed understanding of the process flow sheets and operation of Red Chris flotation circuit.
  • Complete daily & monthly metallurgical accounting duties as required. 
  • Actively participates in short/long term planning process factoring in any known potential production impacts (plant shutdowns, project installation requirements and ore properties changes)
  • Provides a statistical review of differing sources of available data with a view to:
    • Developing planning inputs for all planning cycles,
    • Validates forecast models routinely,
    • Follows change management where model updates are required,
    • Identifies business improvement opportunities or emergent production risks from review of the data
 
  • Directs generation of ongoing ore body knowledge for upcoming ore sources.
  • An active involvement in processing plant commissioning tasks, providing robust product for the operating team and delivering on expected performance gains.
  • Provides the short term through to long-term technical support to the Operations Team to ensure maximum and sustainable profitability of the business.
  • Maintains the upkeep of the ore body knowledge data base and utilises the findings from this data base to inform on planning inputs and identify emergent risks and opportunities for the business.
  • Assists the Chief Metallurgist in driving idea generations and ensures innovation and continuous improvement are an ongoing focus of the operation.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of applicable research initiatives and peer projects in development or implementation.
  • Maintains current view of applicable industry benchmarks and uses these as a basis for driving operational excellence.
  • Provides technical oversight on the Red Chris Block Cave Study.
  • Exhibit the NewSafe behaviours and actively undertake safety interactions out in the field when onsite. 
  • Actively look for and rectify hazards present in the field when onsite
  • Prepares scopes and carries out laboratory and plant test work as required. 
  • Maintain regular updates to full initiatives. Schedule the work as planned and advise of any threats to meeting the planned timelines.
  • Ensures that a management of change process is followed as part of all process changes.
  • Attend required daily operational, metallurgical and safety meetings as required
  • Ensures all activities are carried out consistent with:
    • Safe working practices and individual competencies;
    • OHS legislation, the Company Safety Management System, and Environmental plans
    • Principles of total quality management and continuous improvement
Training & Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing or Chemical Engineering
  • High attention to detail in problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Completer / Finisher with demonstrated ability to approach tasks with tenacity and deliver to customer 
  • requirements.
  • High level of commitment to improving the business through continuous improvement.
  • A demonstrated ability to work constructively and effectively with all internal and external stakeholders

Experience:

  • Preferably 4+ years exposure to mineral processing operations.
  • Knowledge of gold extraction processing.
  • Exposure to SAG milling and Flotation Unit processes within the base metals industry for part of that 
  • time.

Licences / Certificates:

  • Canadian Driver’s License

The expected salary range for this role is CA$125,800 – 148,000. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
