About this role
As a Senior Project Director and Head of Mega Project for Red Chris, you will have overall leadership accountability for the Red Chris Block Cave Project This will include:
- Executive leadership of a complex and strategically important greenfield copper development.
- Stewardship of all aspects of the feasibility study and flawless execution.
- Coordinate the project activity and people leadership.
- Stakeholder management, engaging with the local community members.
This position will likely office in our Vancouver office with travel as needed to Red Chris which is in British Columbia, Canada. Red Chris is moving from an Open Pit to a Block Cave mine. we need someone who has extensive experience with delivering on mega projects in the mining, oil and gas, or other similar industries.
This is a $2B+ Mega Project, in the early stage, with about 1.5 years away from full funding. This will become the largest block cave mine in Canada

Your role will consist of
Growth Strategy/Governance
- Design sophisticated project development strategies and approaches based on the internal and external context of the project, its objectives, stakeholders, governance, market dynamics.
- Maximize value, manage cost and enhance schedule performance.
- Continually evaluate exposure to risk, both opportunities and threats, to maximize positive impacts and mitigate negative impacts on the project and its outcomes.
- Build governance and assurance processes to meet and exceed regulatory requirements.
Operations Excellence
- Act with integrity, care, and trustworthiness to steward the safe delivery the project in accordance Newmont, JV Partner requirements & external Stakeholder expectations.
- Integrate all aspects of the development including HSE, scope, schedule cost, quality, contracts and procurement, risk, stakeholder and change management, controls and reporting, commissioning. Newmont, JV Partner requirements & external Stakeholder expectations.
- Establish robust systems and structure to meet regulatory, Newmont, Joint Venture, S&ER, Government, First Nations & other stakeholder requirements for project success.
- Evaluate, navigate project complexity; build adaptability and resiliency into the project development approach to accommodate change, recover from setbacks and advance the work of the project.
- Continually evaluate exposure to risk, both opportunities and threats, to maximize positive impacts and mitigate negative impacts on the project and its outcomes.

- Embed a strong HSE culture focused on safety in design, fatality prevention, and the creation of a safe and equitable workplace.
People
- Establish and develop a high performing project team, building in-country skills and competencies to advance the project and support the ongoing operation.
- Build, maintain and replenish the requisite skills, capabilities, systems and processes required to successfully ramp up and execute the project at a sustained high level of performance throughout the multiyear development, commissioning and production ramp up phases.
Commercial
- Budgets, cost control, forecasting and reporting.
Your training, skill and experience checklist
Knowledge:
- Tertiary Qualifications in Project Management, Engineering, or other relevant disciplines.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency delivering major / megaprojects in mining, oil and gas or other capital -intensive industries.
- Advanced proficiency working on megaprojects within the global context, working with regulators, communities, first nations people and delivery partners.
- Advanced proficiency delivering underground projects including shafts, material handling systems, vertical and lateral development [including block cave developments], tailings facilities, renewable energy projects all highly desirable.
