Following the recent acquisition of Pretivm, Newcrest now own and operate the Brucejack Mine located 65 kilometers north of the town of Stewart in northern British Columbia. 

The Brucejack underground mine is one of the largest and highest-grade gold mines globally and as of January 1, 2021 has proven and probable mineral reserves of 3.9 million ounces of gold (14.4 million tonnes grading 8.3 grams per tonne gold) with a mine life of 12 years.

The Opportunity:

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Red Seal Carpenter to join the Brucejack Mine in Northwestern, British Columbia.

The purpose of the Carpenter position is to ensure that all assigned constructions projects complies with building codes in accordance with Project permits, policies and standards.

Perform the following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, molding and hardware
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, industrial plants and other establishments
  • May supervise apprentices and other workers
  • May prepare cost estimates
  • Participate in any other site-specific training
  • Maintain, all tools utilized within the scope of the position
  • Other relevant duties as required

About You:

  • Valid inter-provincial Red Seal Carpenters certification trade qualification complimented
  • Valid driver’s license for any vehicle that may be utilized for the job
  • A minimum of 3 years or more of progressively related experience in a mining or industrial setting
  • Experience as a qualified carpenter
  • Certification in workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS)
  • Certification in Transportation of dangerous goods (TDG)
  • Strong knowledge of regulations regarding building codes
  • Strong knowledge of safety procedures within the construction field
  • Detail and results oriented with the ability to adhere to shifting priorities and deadlines

 

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) 13 days on 13 days off 2 travel days.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
  • Be able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Be able to work in close quarters with the team
