Production Geologist – 986472

Our Brucejack Geology team is now recruiting for the position of Production Geologist with a competitive base salary between $75,000 – $110,000 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity.

The position is site-based at Brucejack Mine, in northwestern BC and reports directly to the Chief Mine Geologist or designate. The Production Geologist’s primary responsibility is to support the Geology team in all aspects of geological work programs at the Brucejack mine and provides technical expertise to underground exploration and production personnel to optimize extraction of mineable reserves.

Accountabilities

Preform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

  • Collect, document, assess geological data and regularly communicate findings both in written form and verbally
  • Collect and compile geological data to correlate metallurgical performance of ore within existing and planned process
  • Record geological features of all underground openings, shafts, tunnels, and chambers
  • Coordinate production geology activities at site and assist with the development and management of all subordinate geology personnel
  • Conduct underground geological mapping to ensure effective grade control
  • Conduct surface geological mapping and sampling near mine as required
  • Collaborate with operational and engineering staff in mine planning activities and initiatives
  • Prepare and present plans and illustrations on relevant underground structures, formations, and features
  • Track, analyze, document, and discuss all relevant geological information required for short- and long-term planning
  • Assist with the planning, design and continuous improvement of geology processes and systems
  • Monitor daily grade and dilution control for optimized ore extraction
  • Analyse geological data to determine and provide recommendations for exploration and definition drill programs
  • Assist in the development and management of drilling programs and/or other contract work as necessary
  • Provide geological support to key stake holders as required and assist with development of geological and geotechnical models to support mine planning
  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety, community and environmental protection in keeping with Newmont’s goals and objectives
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • Registered and in good standing with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) as a Professional Geologist (P. Geo) or as a Geologist in Training (GIT), with the expectation that registration as a P. Geo will follow upon required qualifications being met
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive underground mine production geology experience.

Skills:

  • Strong communication, leadership, planning, time management and organizational skills
  • Advanced computer & administrative software (i.e., Vulcan, Autocad, Mapinfo)
  • Experience with grade control and production monitoring within epithermal style deposits
  • Project and coordination experience
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Ability to record and maintain daily records
  • Analytical, supervisory, and problem-solving skills
  • Cross cultural awareness of the differences in cultural and economic backgrounds

Additional Information:

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on/14 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts
