About Brucejack
Our Brucejack Gold Mine, a high-grade underground mine in beautiful northern British Columbia, is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Stewart. Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. We work closely with local First Nations communities including the Nisga’a, Tahltan, Gitanyow, and Gitxsan, to build respectful partnerships and celebrate our shared community.

Purpose
The purpose of the Mine Engineering Student is to assist and support the engineering team researching, collecting and tabulating engineering data in a safe, professional, and timely manner. Additional tasks can include supporting the team with underground design, layout and construction.
Essential Duties
Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:
- Collect, collate and analyze data while collaborating with operational and technical personnel
- Assists in the design, development and implementation of projects such as water and power supply/distribution, ventilation and drainage control
- Analyze labor requirements, equipment needs and operational costs to compute and prepare operational budget reports
- Research and ascertain extraction risks while using computer software applications to maximise planning, production and extraction systems and techniques
- Inspect air ventilation and quality at mining areas on periodic basis
- Communicate project updates, recommendations, concerns and expense to senior staff
- Identify problems in mining processes and develop appropriate resolutions
- Monitor and communicate operational issues/concerns with mining contractors
- Conduct other activities to support the safe, efficient and successful development of the Brucejack Project
- Understand and ensure compliance with Brucejack safety policies and governmental safety regulations including Ministry of Mines and WorksafeBC
- • Other duties as required
Training & Experience
Position requirements include, but are not limited to:
Enrolled in a 4 year Post-Secondary Mining Engineering Degree program with experience in an underground mining environment prefered.
Skills
- Very strong spreadsheet and word processing skills (i.e. Microsoft Excel and Word)
- Proficiency with relevant mining software programs (i.e. Deswik, VentSim etc.)
- Experience with databases (Microsoft Access) is an asset.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills (English)
- Leadership, planning, organizational, analytical & problem solving skills
- Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
- Cross cultural awareness & understanding
Working Conditions
- Work at remote location (camp) on a 13 days on, 13 days off, 2 travel days schedule
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
- Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
- Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
- Able to work in close quarters with the team

The expected salary range for this role is CA$85,000-$90,000. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
