Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Mine Engineer – Paste Systems with a competitive base salary between $95,000-$110,000 dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications with an additional short-term incentive of 10%. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity.
The purpose of the position is to support the Technical Services group with detailed stope backfill backages and additional checks for hydraulic gradient and slack flow calculations. The position also requires supporting the planning and operations teams to ensure the mine wide reticulation system is on schedule to support new or existing stoping horizons. QAQC will be required to also support paste optimization projects and binder recipe recommendations. The successful candidate will be able to work with supervision and produce required timelines, designs, and operational inputs. The role will require multi-disciplinary cooperation and understanding across the different mining groups.
Perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:
- Implement effective risk management systems for paste pours or projects
- Establish and maintain a change management system for changes in process
- Communicate performance, observations, and concerns with Operations, Management or Engineering
- Creates and maintains Backfill Management Plan
- Provide backfill technical expertise in reticulation systems, binder recipes or stope designs
- Work with capital projects group to aid in scheduling, ordering and maintaining permanent paste line infrastructure
- Determine paste fill recipes (strength requirements, % binder, etc.)
- Create and distribute paste packages (recipe, barricade design, volume, pipe line reticulation, sampling requirements)
- Provide input into permanent reticulation design (pipe extensions, dump valves)
- Provides drawings and list of intersecting holes for the development of paste fill packages
- Maintain Cylinder database and Deswik MDM paste related attributes
- Analyze UCS database and provide input into stope designs
- Perform lab audits and ensuring technician competency
- Paste update communications between Engineering, Mill and Operation groups
- Perform paste barricade inspections and maintain barricade database
- Paste reticulation installation inspections and ensure compliance to support and pressure standards
- Create paste system alarms to ensure safe pressures in reticulation system
- Develop maintenance schedule plans for pipes (wear monitoring, cleaning and replacement)
- Complete reporting requirements (void ratio, down time, stope reconciliation)
- Ordering and installation of pressure sensors (barricade monitoring)

About You:
Position requirements include but are not limited to:
- BSc. Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in underground mines.
- Registration or eligible for registration as a GIT/EIT or P.Geo/P.Eng with EGBC is a requirement.
- Advanced computer skills (i.e. AutoCAD, Deswik, Vulcan, Microsoft Office etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills and team player to work with coworkers and contractors.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
- Ability to liaise effectively with management teams and deal with complex problems
- Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations.
Additional Information
- Work at remote location (Brucejack Site) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation
- Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
- Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
- Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
- Able to work in close quarters with the team.
