Mine Engineer – Drill and Blast

Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Mine Engineer – Drill and Blast with a competitive base salary between $85,000-$100,000 dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications with an additional short-term incentive of 10%. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity.

The purpose of the position is to support the Technical Services group with short term drill and blast plans that complement the issued 3 month forecast. The successful candidate will be able to work with supervision and produce required timelines, designs, and operational decisions. The role will require multi-disciplinary cooperation and understanding across the different mining groups.

Perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of short term (1 week to 1 month ) drill and blast plans based on 3 month plan
  • Designing and issuing of long hole Drill Packages, Blast Packages, and other drill designs as required for maintaining the ore production for the week plan as allocated from the Senior Engineer.
  • Underground inspections of current, future and completed drill locations
  • Underground inspections of blasts, reviewing cleaning prints, loading logs, timing sheets.
  • Underground inspections and documentation of underground infrastructure including air, water, paste and electrical.
  • Data collection for drill and blast activities, including but not limited to borehole survey monitoring, CMS scans, blast accelerometer (dyno shot+) installs and collection.
  • Complete reconciliation reports for stopes, outlining recovery, dilution and underbreak. Communicating these results with engineering team and making recommendations for design changes
  • Reviewing stope CMS scans with contractor, and reconciling ore and waste haulage numbers as per the contractor agreement.
  • Communicate project updates, recommendations, concerns, and expenses to senior staff.
  • Monitor and communicate operational issues/concerns with mining contractors.
  • Independently host short term production meetings that incorporate stope design requirements into short range needs
  • Help maintain, and improve current Deswik MDM database
  • Participate in safety improvement process via Newmont’s Fatality Risk Management policies

About You:

Position requirements include but are not limited to:

  • BSc. Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent education. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in underground mines.
  • Registration or eligible for registration as a GIT/EIT or P.Geo/P.Eng with EGBC is a requirement.
  • Advanced computer skills (i.e. AutoCAD, Deswik, Vulcan, Microsoft Office etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player to work with coworkers and contractors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
  • Ability to liaise effectively with management teams and deal with complex problems
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations.

Additional Information

  • Work at remote location (Brucejack Site) on a 13 days on/13 days off rotation
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
