Purpose
Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Mill Trainee with a competitive hourly rate of $36.89. The Mill Trainee position entails a wide variety of tasks throughout the Crushing Plant, Overland Conveyors and Mill Concentrator. Based on crew requirements, duties will be assigned by the Mill Operations Supervisor. Trainees who are appointed by their Supervisor to commence training on one of the operational circuits, (crushing, grinding, reagents, cyclones, or dewatering), shall receive a circuit induction prior to the start of training and shall be required to successfully complete periodic reviews and final evaluations to obtain a certificate of competency. Reviews shall include demonstrated success in the following categories: Safety, Position Duties, Communication, Productivity, Equipment, Theory and Troubleshooting.
Essential Duties
The following duties will be assigned at the discretion of the Mill Shift Supervisor. Training may be provided by the Training Department, the Shift Supervisor or an Operator competent in the task and in giving instruction.
- Shoveling- conveyor hazards/proper shoveling technique.
- Hosing- Proper hosing technique/awareness of electrical hazards.
- Sample Collection – instruction in proper handling of samples.
- PAX mixing – Procedure M-06/practical instruction, mentoring.
- Lime Slaker Operation- Procedure M-04/practical instruction, mentoring.
- Ball Charging- Crane sign-off/Procedure M-03/practical instruction, mentoring.
- Conveyor inspections – Procedure M-07 Conveyor Safety.
- Taking densities- Performing wet screen analysis.
- Performing tasks that involve heavy lifting, cleaning, sweeping, shoveling and hosing.
- Performing tasks in extreme weather conditions.
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Ensure the safe operation of equipment in their area.
- Wear all required PPE.
- Report for work on time as scheduled, fit for duty and properly attired.
- Fill out and submit a Field Level Hazard Analysis card daily.
- Ensure a high level of housekeeping is maintained.
- Be proactive in hazard identification, mitigation and rectification.
- Adhere to all safety standards, and ensure compliance by employees working in their area.
- Adhere to all relevant SOP’S and follow safe operating practices.
- Identify and report dangerous occurrences. HSRC (sec. 1.7.1 – 1.7.3)
- Ensure the safe operation of utility equipment they are required to use.
Training & Experience
Relevant Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license. (can be an L)
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be capable of working at heights and in confined spaces.
- Prefer 1-2 years Mill Operating experience.
- 18 years of age by start date.
- Ability to preform tasks that require strength and stamina in extreme weather conditions.
- A team player that works well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Equipment Usage:
Trainees may be required to operate:
- Overhead Cranes.
- Tele handler.
- Wheel Loader.
- Mini-Ex Rock Breaker.
- Aerial Lift.
- Forklift.
- Skid steer.
Trainees having adequate previous experience operating utility equipment shall receive a Competency Review for each piece of equipment which they have experience operating. The Training Department shall conduct this assessment prior to the operation of any equipment. Trainees without previous equipment experience must successfully complete a training course and a Competency Review prior to operating any equipment.
