THE JOB

Reporting to the Shop Foreman, this position will be responsible for fabricating new and replacement machinery parts to ensure that equipment is available, reliable, and safe to operate. The successful candidate will troubleshoot and diagnose problems, inspect equipment, and evaluate whether repair or replacement will be necessary. Daily responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Fabricate new and replacement parts for machinery using conventional and CNC machining equipment.
  • Weld/fabricate equipment.
  • Inspect equipment to determine the root causes for defects and excessive wear.
  • Maintain, inspect, and test equipment.
  • Safely carries out repairs and preventative maintenance to equipment according to the Work Instructions.
  • Follow schematics and manufacturers’ manuals.
  • Order tools and parts; maintain work tools.
  • Assist with developing, reviewing, and updating Pre-Op Checklists, Shop Maintenance Forms, Work Instructions, etc.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE SETTING

This position is based out of company headquarters in Smithers, BC. Shop work environment. There is also a requirement to work outside in all weather conditions. Possible exposure to dust, hazardous chemicals, and high levels of noise.

THE SCHEDULE

Standard working hours are 6:00am – 2:30pm Monday to Friday. There will also be some requirements to be available after hours and on weekends during busy times.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Level 3 Millwright or Machinist Apprenticeship Program at a minimum; Red Seal training preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Previous experience as a Millwright or Machinist in a related industry.
  • Knowledge of diamond drill equipment and drilling methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with welding/fabricating, hydraulic, and electrical systems is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience operating CNC machining equipment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing, component and assembly drawings, engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with CAD and CAM software is considered an asset.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email and the internet.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and must provide a current Driver’s Abstract annually.
