Purpose

Our Red Chris operation is now recruiting for the position of Lead Mine Technician – Block Cave Project with a competitive base salary between $125,000-148,000 dependant on experience, skills, and qualifications. The offered base salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills and competencies with consideration to internal equity. 

As the Lead Miner Technician you will provide site-based field technician leadership, supervision and support for the Block Cave Project in the areas of survey, ventilation, data collection and reporting, and other miscellaneous tasks as required.

Essential Duties

•    Lead and foster the fatal risk management system to ensure safety is paramount in all aspects of work in and outside of the team
•    Develop, improve and maintain the underground survey processes
•    Hire, train and provide vacation coverage for underground mine technicians
•    Perform and oversee survey tasks as required:

  •    Surface and underground asbuilt/quantity surveys and mark-ups 
  •    prepare, maintain, and issue survey layouts and excavation instructions
  •    advance survey control and perform check-surveys on control as required
  •   complete month end survey and reports, including overbreak/underbreak analysis

•    Inspect, adjust, test and monitor the performance of survey/field equipment and other systems
•    Coordinate findings with the project team, relevant contractors, and others concerned with the project.
•    Assist mine engineers in the creation of Plan of Intent “POI” drawings, and other project documents as required.
•    Support development of Underground document management system with procedures, standards, and guideline creation and revision.
•    Support annual budgeting activities and requisite document and project control processes pertaining to the project.
•    Support QA/QC requirements for underground survey, ground control, and ventilation
•    Support ventilation monitoring including air flow/quality measurements, gas re-entry checks, pressure surveys, deficiency monitoring and preparation of ventilation reports.
•    Other duties as may be required including general inspections, continuous improvement projects, etc.

Training & Experience

•    Grade 12 Diploma required;  Post-Secondary education in Survey or Mine Technician related fields preferred.
•    10+ years of experience in underground mining with experience in Survey.
•    Experienced with Deswik mine planning software. MDM experience an asset.
•    Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) upwards (to Mine Superintendent/Manager Mining) and to operational and technical levels.
•    Previous working experience with Northern Canadian mining projects/operations.
•    Experience supporting a mine contractor required.
•    Previous experience with International underground rapid development methodologies including Jumbo Bolting, HDPE service lines, etc.
•    Previous international (expat) experience considered an asset.
•    Previous working experience with block caving method an asset.
•    SAP or Aconex experience considered an asset.
