Purpose
Heavy Duty Mechanics of Auxiliary equipment are responsible for safely performing scheduled and unscheduled tasks to optimize equipment availability and contribute to the performance of the Mobile Maintenance Team. Overhaul, repair and maintenance of all mechanical components of heavy commercial and industrial vehicles including mounted equipment and attachments, heavy and light equipment, and stationary power units equipped with complex hydraulic systems and spark-ignition or diesel engines such as bulldozers, graders, cranes, front end loaders, forklifts, and related heavy equipment. Assignments are usually in the form of work orders and/or oral and written instructions.
The Red Chris Mobile Maintenance team is now recruiting for a Heavy Duty Mechanic of Auxiliary Equipment, with a competitive hourly rate of $55.14 and additional incentives such as a benefits package, RRSP program, and travel allowance to get to and from site. Red Chris Mine is a remote fly-in, fly-out worksite, and this position is offered with a 2-weeks-on 2-weeks off rotating schedule. We offer several designated marshalling points within BC including Nanaimo, Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, Smithers, and Calgary, AB.
Essential Duties
- Strong commitment and adherence to all Safety Policies and Procedures
- Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, replaces and tests all components of gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines, engine starting systems, and steering and braking systems.
- Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts, repairs, replaces and tests all components of clutches, hydraulic couplings, transmissions, transfer cases and axle assemblies.
- Inspects, repairs, and re-assembles suspension systems, frames, wheels and tracks.
- Inspects, repairs or replaces equipment winches, power take-offs, pneumatic or hydraulic pumps, booms, cables, blades and buckets.
- Inspects, repairs, overhauls and re-assembles electrical components such as alternators, distributors, starters, relays and solenoids, etc.
- Use of computer to input work orders, parts, lists, pick tickets, equipment information, troubleshooting feedback and shift turnover notes
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease repair times and streamline work processes
- Interprets technical manuals relating to manufacturer specifications and warranty requirements.
- Input timesheets, material information, equipment information and work orders electronically via SAP.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement to enhance operations, decrease turnaround times, and streamline work processes.
- The mentorship and training of apprentices
- Performs other related duties as required.
Training & Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Heavy Duty Mechanic Red Seal Journeyperson Trade Certificate.
- At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in the field.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license required, Class 3 with air brakes endorsement preferred
- Detailed Knowledge of Commercial trucks equipped with air brakes, Caterpillar, Hitachi, Genie, JLG, JCB and Komatsu brand equipment
- Knowledge of P&H 800XPB shovel, Sandvik drills, Elevated Work Platform (EWP) devices. Cranes, Skid steers, Telehandlers, Generators, Small wheel loaders
Desired Requirements:
- Knowledge of the theories and operating principles of spark-ignition and diesel engines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and heavy duty, multi-speed power trains.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work of the trade.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret technical manuals and specifications.
- Skill in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools and equipment of the trade.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision after initial orientation to specific job requirements.
- Strong teamwork abilities, collaborating effectively with colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Teams and Outlook; Experience with SAP is a significant plus.
