JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Duties:

 

* As a professional member of the Indigenous Relations Team this role will report to the South West Team Lead and act as a designated resource and touch point for building and maintaining ongoing First Nations relationships.

* This includes facilitating the resolution of conflict and ensuring engagement, consultation and related activities are executed and documented.

* Leads the execution of the First Nations component of low-moderate complexity Generation, Transmission and Distribution capital projects and programs where relationship, legal, environmental, reputational and other key risks require technical expertise and knowledge of consultation, engagement and community relations processes specific to a utility environment.

* Supports other team members in carrying out selected consultation activities for more complex projects with higher risk.

* Oversees and facilitates First Nations procurement and employment opportunities through project identification and definition stages, and following implementation of negotiated agreements.

* Leads and executes low-moderate risk projects and programs for the assigned suite of relationship agreement commitments, and leads the planning and execution of capacity building and other engagement initiatives to promote First Nations access to a wide variety of internal and external programs and resources.

* Responds to requests from internal BC Hydro business groups for technical advice and support when performing a variety of maintenance activities affecting First Nations assets (eg vegetation management, meter installation).

* Builds ongoing relationship with a wide range of internal and external contacts including provincial government agencies, municipalities, and other utilities to promote their understanding of BC Hydro’s Indigenous Relations principles, vision and values.

* Oversees and mentors other members of Indigenous Relations team supporting delivery of relationship and project engagement commitments.

 

Qualifications:

 

* University degree in Public Policy, Law, Government, Public or Business Administration, Engineering, or similar. Equivalent education and working experience will also be considered.

* A minimum of 4 years of experience in a business environment (public or private sector preferably resource-based organization) including experience in managing projects with some exposure to cross cultural setting.

* Ability to recognize an emerging issue and find solutions quickly before it gets escalated.

* Competent computer skills with strong knowledge in Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel and SharePoint).

* Well-developed communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively amongst different teams.

* Organized and task driven. Ability to progress several different activities with competing timelines and pressures at one time, in a high work volume environment.

* Candidates with comprehensive understanding of the goals and perspectives of Indigenous people in BC and knowledge of First Nations issues as they relate to the energy industry is highly desirable.

* Candidate must demonstrate strong background in BC Hydro's project management processes, business planning and reporting with well developed analytical skills and expertise in negotiations.

* This role will involve occasional travel within BC.

*A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5 in good standing.

* This posting is for a FTT opportunity for approximately 18 months.

* While this position is listed as being based at our Dunsmuir office in Vancouver, we may consider having the position based out of the Edmonds office in Burnaby, subject to space availability.

Flexible work model role definitions

===========================

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

 

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
