Heavy Equipment Trainer

Reporting to the Project Manager with a dotted line to the Construction Manager, the Heavy Equipment Trainer is responsible to actively train and evaluate active employees and facilitate the training of site supervisors in employee competency, ongoing evaluations, and training. The basic functions of the Heavy Equipment Trainer position is to facilitate and audit compliance with OHS regulations regarding full verification of employee competency, namely, adequately qualified, suitably trained and with sufficient experience to safely perform work without supervision or with only a minimal degree of supervision prior to the start of the type of work.

Qualifications and experience

·      SkilledTradesBC (formerly Industry Training Authority) Heavy Equipment Operator Certification or willingness to participate in the TNDC HEO Mentor Training program for certification through SkilledTradesBC

·      8 – 10 years experience operating heavy equipment; minimum of 5 years in a mining setting preferred

·      proficiency and knowledge of heavy civil earthmoving operations to understand the role and safe operation of each piece of heavy equipment (excavator, dozer, grader, skid steer, articulating rock truck, rigid frame truck, packer, heavy haul trucks, water trucks and fuel and lube)

·      valid Class 1 or Class 3 Drivers License required with clean commercial abstract

·      Ground Disturbance Level 2, Standard First Aid, and site-specific training
