Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager with a competitive base salary between $176,800 to $221,000 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 30%.
Health, Safety, Environment and Social performance play an integral role in maintaining social acceptance, continuing to maintain ESG leadership and support continuity of our operations. This role is essential implementing strategic objectives, standards, systems and processes at site for health & safety to ensure risks are known and address.
The purpose of this role is to ensure the site achieves strategic safety objectives through the deployment of the Safety Management system.
The successful candidate will perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:
- Develop, monitor and direct the implementation of H&S policies and procedures at the operational level.
- Provide guidance to site and regional leadership to ensure compliance with local and national regulations.
- Manage the execution of occupational H&S strategies to reduce and minimize the impact of work on employees’ health and well-being and to protect the company personnel, assets, processes and product.
- Continuously improve the Emergency Rescue Team’s capacity and coverage
- Implement operational best practices including providing feedback on timing, progress of implementation and identify improvements
- Relevant engagement with health and safety authorities visiting/inspecting the site
- Oversee the development and completion of regulatory required reports including inspections and incidents
- Assist in responding to health and safety inquiries lodged by local Regulatory agencies and the public
- Develop monitoring and measurement criteria for H&S competency, in line of progression.
- Collate and analyze data from event investigations and other H&S sources to determine root causes and implement control measures that eliminate or mitigate workplace injuries and illnesses, and/or environmental damage and process losses.
- Manage, support and coach operational leaders for health & safety knowledge and competency required.
- Monitor health & safety events and risks, and performance to identify gaps and action plans, that address performance improvements.
- Monitor and report on performance metrics, KPIs, targets
- Support implementation and monitoring of site health & safety risks, including site level implementation of critical controls and verifications.
- Plan for emergency preparedness and contingencies, and function as a crisis management team member.
- Review and maintain current Emergency Evacuation Tactical and Trigger Action plans for the site and implement new planning format in conjunction with Health and Safety and HR Group (HR, Site Services, L&D).
- Assure that all site visitors and contractor´s comply with all the requirements, policies and standards of Newmont.
- Oversee all external H&S contractors working on-site within the mine and administer disciplinary actions, where appropriate.
- Coordinate health & safety systems and compliance.
- Support site rapid response
- Lead and manage the site teams, aligning effective leadership and team member processes and accountabilities including talent and succession planning.
- Build capability (knowledge and technical skills)
- Support development of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts: Develop, actively manage, and report against plans for costs, headcount and capital spend.

About You:
- Minimum 8 – 10 years’ Health and Safety industry experience, of which at least 4 – 5 years should be in the capacity of a Manager for a large organization, including experience in areas such as Surface and Underground Mining, Process Plant Operations and Project Construction.
- Demonstrated successes in working collaboratively in multi-cultural teams
- Bachelors’ Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Applied Sciences in Emergency management or related discipline.
- Postgraduate in Health and Safety is desired.
- Health & Safety professional qualification
- Knowledge of legislation and standards in BC
- Understanding and technical expertise in health and safety management (in mining preferred)
- Knowledge of mining industry and operations
- Advanced proficiency in designing and implementing health & safety systems and tools across geographical locations and cultures.
- Competent level of proficiency in project management, influencing and coaching.
- Advanced incident management skills.
- Advanced business continuity management skills.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced relationship management skills.
- Be able to work in a fly in, fly out camp setting
