About Brucejack

Our Brucejack Gold Mine, a high-grade underground mine in beautiful northern British Columbia, is located approximately 65 kilometres north of Stewart. Brucejack is a fly-in/fly-out operation with pick-up points across Western Canada, making it easy for people from different places to join us. We work closely with local First Nations communities including the Nisga’a, Tahltan, Gitanyow, and Gitxsan, to build respectful partnerships and celebrate our shared community.

Purpose

The Geotechnical Engineer position is located at the Brucejack site within the Technical Services Department. The position reports to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer or designate.

The purpose of the position is to support the geotechnical engineering function at the Brucejack Mine by working closely with Technical and Operational personnel, ensuring compliance with the BC Mines act and the Ground Control Management Plan, while identifying and managing the material geotechnical risks to the Operation

Essential Duties

Perform the following duties with safety being the number one priority:

  • Geotechnical mapping of newly developed headings
  • Inspections of proper ground support applications
  • Assist in Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests and analysis
  • Monitoring/tracking of underground instruments
  • Assist in stability analysis data collection in underground mining and waste rock deposition sites
  • Participate in short and long term mine planning related to ground control
  • Assist in the preparation of technical proposals and reports
  • Assist in design and preparation of paste backfill and waste rockfill
  • Assist in conducting and coordinating of a wide variety of geotechnical investigations and designs
  • Assist in maintaining and revising, as required, the geotechnical design criteria based on geotechnical data
  • Collecting and interpreting geomechanical data (i.e. face mapping, core logging etc.)
  • Assist in maintaining, calibrating and enhancing numerical models for informing stability of existing and planned underground and surface excavations
  • Other activities to support the safe, efficient and successful development of the Brucejack Mine
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Brucejack safety policies and governmental safety regulations including Ministry of Mines and WorksafeBC.
Training & Experience

Qualifications:

  • BSc. Degree in Mining Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent combination of seasoned technical knowledge and experience combined with a minimum of three (3) years of experience at an underground mine.

Skills:

  • Advanced computer skills (ie. Deswik, Microsoft Office etc.)
  • Knowledge of numerical analysis programs (Map3D, Rocscience package, Geostudio package)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player to work with coworkers and contractors.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English) • Ability to liaise effectively with management teams and deal with complex problems
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations.
Additional Information
  • Work at a remote location (camp) on a 13 days on, 13 days off, 2 travel days schedule
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift
  • Be able to maintain high levels of performance over 12 hour shifts
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team

The expected salary range for this role is CA$97,000 – 120,000. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
