THE JOB

Working closely with the Shop Foremen, Fleet Coordinator and on-site Operations, the Field Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance and undertaking repairs of a broad range of hydraulic, electrical, diesel and gas-powered equipment and rolling stock in the field. The primary goal is to ensure that equipment is available, reliable, and safe to operate. Daily responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose problems with equipment in the field using computerized and other testing equipment.
  • Consult with the Shop Foreman (drilling related equipment) and Fleet Coordinator (work vehicles and rolling stock) to evaluate repair vs. replacement costs and determine the most efficient and safe method of repair to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Safely carries out repairs and preventative maintenance according to work instructions and manufacturer specifications.
  • Provide training on preventative maintenance and troubleshooting to field employees.
  • Maintain and secure work tools, ensuring a clean, organized and efficient workspace.
  • Focus on safety and maintain awareness of the environment to identify potential hazards.
  • Follow proper lock out tag on procedures.
  • Order required parts and equipment for on-site maintenance and repair.
  • Other duties as assigned.

THE SETTING

This is a field-based position. Preference will be given to candidates based in Smithers, BC and Saskatoon, SK.

THE SCHEDULE

Rotational schedule, dependent on job location (4/2, 3/3, or 2/2).

WHAT YOU NEED

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanic in a related industry.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge, with proficiency in diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, electrical, diesel, and gas-powered systems.
  • Knowledge of diamond drill equipment and drilling methodologies is an asset.
  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic or Red Seal Millwright certification is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills in word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email, and the internet.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and must provide a current Driver’s Abstract annually.
