Our Brucejack operation is now recruiting for an Assayer – Data Approval with a competitive base salary between $80,130 – $92,650 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 10%.

The Data Approval Assayer’s primary responsibility is to evaluate all data submitted from different instruments and make sure all results submitted meet lab internal criteria and are ready to be submitted for final data approval. Data Approval Assayer is familiar with instrument troubleshooting and able to carry out preventive maintenances on routine basis and train entry level instrument operator.

Perform following duties, with safety being the number one priority:

  • Assists Assay Lab Supervisor with processing of ore samples and to determine grade, value, and mineral properties.
  • Ensures daily/weekly production targets are met and makes appropriate changes where necessary to streamline processes.
  • Review and approve data submitted from various instruments and lab processes.
  • Perform daily verification on a variety of lab equipment including dispensers, pipettes, analytical balances, and other lab equipment.
  • Familiar with operating and carrying preventative maintenances on LECO CS844, Agilent AAS 240 FS, and Agilent ICP-OES 5800.
  • Perform regular instrument inspections to confirm instrument performance and troubleshoot and carry out preventive maintenances on instrument.
  • Work closely with instrument service technicians when the service technicians are on the site. Communicate with service technician as needed.
  • Plan and conduct instrumental method validation and verifications.
  • Assist Chief Assayer or Assay Lab Supervisor on preparing and reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs) on analytical instruments.
  • Strong data analysis skills and data evaluation background.
  • Recommends improvements or modifications to existing equipment and will perform or assist with design and installation of new instrument.
  • Practice good housekeeping and maintain clean and tidy workstations and areas.
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all occupational safety regulations, mine site and laboratory safety procedures, and requirements of ISO Quality management system SOPs.
  • Report hazards & incidents in a timely manner in accordance with Health and Safety protocols. Participate in toolbox meeting, weekly safety meetings, training, and development initiatives to remain current with technology, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner in accordance with applicable legislation, company policy, standards, and procedures.
  • Other duties as required by the Chief Assayer or Assay Lab Supervisor.

About You  

A Diploma/ bachelor’s degree in chemistry is advantageous combined with a minimum three (3) years in a similar work environment complimented with good knowledge of analytical chemistry, instrument operations, and/or mineral processing. BC Certified Assayer as an asset.

Skills

  • Can work safely under minimum supervision.
  • Previous experience operating and troubleshooting on a variety of Geochemistry instrumentation.
  • Strong expertise/knowledge of mineral processing and extraction.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective organizational, time management and analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills to include data processing and data base management.
  • Familiar with laboratory information management system (LIMS)

Additional Information

  • Work at remote location (camp) on a 14 days on / 12 days off/ 2 days travelling rotation.
  • Able to pass a pre-employment medical screening.
  • Must be comfortable to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
  • Be able maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts.
  • Able to work in areas of extreme weather conditions.
  • Able to work in close quarters with the team.
