1st Year Apprentice, Warehouse & Parts Technician

Our Smithers office is now recruiting for a 1st Year Apprentice, Warehouse & Parts Technician with a competitive wage of $37.01 dependent on experience, skills, and competencies with consideration to internal equity with an additional short-term incentive of 10%.

Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, this position is a part of a team which is responsible for the handling, movement, and storage of inventory. Following the Newmont business processes and providing high levels of professionalism this role contributes to the supply and logistics support for Newmont’s mines in the North American region. 

Safety, Health & Housekeeping

  • Participate in site safety initiatives and supporting the agreed behaviours in the team.

  • Actively support a culture of recognizing hazards and minimizing risk and consequential harm to employees
  • Support any investigations when work is stopped due to an unsafe act or condition and ensure actions to mitigate the risks are implemented.
  • Take a proactive risk management approach to tasks, i.e., recognize, analyse and respond to ensure risks are at an acceptable level; help to ensure that prior to work commencing an effective risk assessment and controls are in place and understood.
  • Maintain a clean workplace, complete housekeeping tasks prior to the completion of the daily shifts.

Technical

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform all warehouse activities including shipping, receiving, put away, pulling orders, packing, and loading and unloading trucks, shipping containers, etc.
  • Keep accurate records of goods entering and leaving the warehouse via the SAP MRP system.
  • Receive pick tickets and prepare and stage customer orders accordingly.
  • Receive and process warehouse stock orders.
  • Operate equipment such as forklift, zoom boom and loader safely and effectively.
  • Contribute to, and participate in, the inventory control process.
  • Other duties as required.

About You:

Position requirements include, but are not limited to:  

  • Entry-level position with desire to attain relevant Warehouse Certification, and / enrolled with Skilled Trades BC as a Parts Technician 1, an asset.
  • Experience operating forklift, zoom boom and loader, an asset.
  • Experience in industrial warehousing, an asset
  • Experience in mining operations, an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • SAP experience, an asset
  • Physical requirements: lifting, carrying, bending, stretching, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • A team player that works well with others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
