Principal Geologist


Scope of Position

As a Principal Consultant, Geologist, you will be a technical and business leader within the organization, providing high quality geoscientific consulting services in a professional and ethical manner. You will be expected to operate at all times to the highest standards of professional and ethical performance. In doing so and by the standards of your work, you will assist with the promotion of the company to existing and potential clients, and generate work for yourself and other CSA Global employees.




Key duties as principal geologist


  • Provide high-quality technical and strategic advice to clients.
  • Develop and proactively manage client relationships.
  • Provide consulting services spanning exploration to deposit evaluation bringing understanding of mineral systems and specialist expertise and experience.
  • Plan and undertake geoscientific and exploration reviews, audits, investigations and site activities to provide clients with high quality outcomes, including completion of site visits to client exploration and evaluation projects in Canada or internationally. 
  • Complete high-quality reporting of activities, findings and recommendations to clients including technical reports and statutory documents such as NI 43-101 reports.
  • Plan and complete your activities within scope, budget and schedule to achieve agreed targets and standards.
  • Work autonomously or within or leading teams at CSA Global both in Canada and internationally to ensure strong collaboration throughout the company.
  • Maintain positive relations with partners and colleagues providing mentoring and support throughout the company.
  • Develop strong links with staff and managers from other CSA Global offices to help advance integration, business development, and learning opportunities.
  • Engage in technical and thought leadership within the organization and externally, staying abreast of developments in relevant mineral deposit research and developments in exploration technology and approaches.
  • Help identify, develop and implement business strategies to achieve personal and business unit performance targets.
  • Undertake business development on behalf of CSA Global, contributing to the growth of CSA Global business within Canada and elsewhere.
  • Understand and comply with your professional responsibilities.
  • Maintain a strong safety work ethic and Company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining organizational culture, values and reputation. 


Other duties

  • Attend professional development training as required.
  • Attend conferences or technical seminars.
  • Deliver talks at conferences or seminars.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties as instructed by a Manager and/or the Directors.

Requirements critical to successful performance

  • High standard of technical geological knowledge, mineral system understanding, and exploration experience across a number of deposit types and commodities (precious metals, copper, nickel, etc.).
  • Expertise in a specialist discipline desirable, structural geology being especially desirable.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for geological excellence and delivery of optimal outcomes for clients.
  • Ability to develop and manage client relationships and to build on strong existing networks within the resource sector.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to mentor and manage junior staff to create productive teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including superior report writing skills.
  • High level knowledge of GIS and 3D software, especially Leapfrog.
  • Flexibility with hours and work locations.



  • 15+ years geological experience, including practical experience in the exploration industry.
  • Previous consulting experience highly regarded with demonstrated ability to manage client relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience across a number of deposit types, ideally including gold and base metal mineral systems, and experience in a specialist discipline (e.g. structural geology, alteration geochemistry).
  • Experience managing teams in the office and in remote locations.
  • Strong experience of the Canadian regulatory environment and of NI 43-101 reporting.



  • Tertiary degree in Geology, with post-graduate qualifications (MSc, PhD) highly regarded.
  • Member or Fellow of professional geoscientific organization (P.Geo.), with experience and qualified person status across a number of deposit types or commodities.
  • Possess a current unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Desirable to possess a current Senior First Aid Certificate.
