Job Title: Health & Safety Manager
Reporting to the VP, Health and Safety or their designate, the Health and Safety Manager is responsible for leading the management, implementation, continuous improvement, and execution of Skeena Resources’ safety program. This role will work directly with site personnel, contractors, and various stakeholders to ensure safe operations and continuous improvement in the health and safety space.
The Health and Safety Manager is the primary resource to drive Skeena’s operational safety program at field sites and development project activities. This position manages and implements the safety program, systems and tools at Eskay Creek mine site.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Safety Program Leadership & Governance
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Skeena Resources’ safety program.
- Drive ownership of the safety program across the entire site team and lead awareness and implementation of the safety program.
- Be responsible for all internal and external health and safety reporting.
- Provide interpretation and guidance on health and safety regulations to ensure accurate understanding and compliance across the site.
- Lead implementation and ongoing maintenance of the site incident management system.
Site Safety Operations & Field Engagement
- Collaborate with project groups for all safety requirements, safe operations, corrective actions, and training.
- Be consistently present in the field to work with crews on continuous improvement and operational excellence in the safety space.
- Deliver common safety messaging across the entire site, including safety concerns, program updates, corrective actions, and hazards.
- Work cross-functionally with all departments to integrate safety practices into daily operations and promote a proactive safety culture.
Incident Management & Emergency Response
- Be the key support resource for on-site safety incident investigations and corrective action development.
- Manage, lead, and update the site emergency response plan.
Training, Competency & Awareness
- Build and implement a training program that is multi-tiered, engaging, and effective for both Skeena employees and contractors.
- Ensure consistent delivery of safety awareness and training across the site.
Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead and help build a high-performing safety team that drives value and innovation within the project’s safety program.
Health, Industrial Hygiene & Wellness
- Lead the Industrial Hygiene program.
- Oversee occupational and non-occupational health management through site medical teams.
Security & Site Access
- Manage site security, including gate security.
- All other relevant duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
Education / Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering or Occupational Health and Safety

Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
Experience / Skills
- 3+ years experience in planning and scheduling, large-scale projects, preferably in the mining sector.
- 10+ years of directly related Health and Safety Management experience or equivalent combination of experience is required, preferably within the mining or resources sector.
- Experience in major projects and mining construction is preferred.
- Working knowledge of BC HSRC, WCB and WorkSafe BC guidance and rules.
- Proven track record of managing and implementing comprehensive health and safety management strategies to mitigate risks and ensure compliance.
- Experience with LMS and Incident Management software. Experience with BIStrainer is an asset.
- Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
- Strong computer skills using MS office suite is required.
- Proficient in directing and managing emergencies and site teams
- Knowledge of mining methods, safety regulations and safety engineering.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters
- Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
- Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others
Work Location & Conditions
This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.
The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.
There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this position is CA$140,000-$190,000, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
